Flushing, already known for delicious food spots like New World Mall, bargain brand names at Skyview Mall, not to mention tourist meccas like the 1964 World’s Fair Unisphere, is about to get a new “hype” shoe store: Alumni. “This is not just a sneaker store, but a premium high concept boutique,” said Jaeki Cho, store owner and longtime resident of Queens. He wants to “create a retail space that offers premium products for this market, something [he] thought was missing.”
This store offers a variety of exclusive products and features iconic brands, including Adidas, Nike, and Timberland. Alumni provides the Flushing community with convenient access to fashion products. As Cho puts it, “this could be a place where younger folks don’t have to travel out of Queens to get access to great products.” Alumni is not just any regular retail store, the back story is what makes it unique.
Cho grew up in Queens and has always been passionate about creating and selling products. As a kid growing up in Flushing, he fell in love with “OG Nike Shocks.” But the price was “astronomical.” He didn’t have that kind of money, but his desire to own those beloved shoes inspired him to become a successful entrepreneur.
More than a sneaker store, Cho plans to “hold amazing events, invite artists, and also do community engagement panels to reach out to younger folks.” Alongside sneakers, the store offers “candles, accessories, toys, Bearbricks, perfume, magazines, and more.”
Stephan Han, fellow consumer, said that he “loves the vibe that it brings people.” Another consumer, Kristine Rodriguez, pointed out the unique way “the products were displayed made you feel like you had to buy it.”
All in all, this small business has brought great satisfaction to many people, and we know you will enjoy the store and the products they have to offer. Stop by Flushing and check out Alumni!
